Welcoming 2026 a little late, I made a New Year’s card using a reworked image from The Horse in Motion, often referred to as one of the origins of cinema. It also works as a bookmark. More precisely, it was made for that purpose. 2026년을 조금 늦게 맞이하며, 영화의 기원 중 하나라 불리는 「The Horse in Motion」의 사진을 재가공하여 연하장(동시에 책갈피로 기능하며, 그 기능을 목적으로 만들어진)을 만들었습니다.

The image is said to have begun with a question asked by Leland Stanford, known as the founder of Stanford University: “Is there a moment when all four of a horse’s hooves are off the ground while it is running?” 사실 이 사진 작업은 스탠퍼드 대학교의 설립자로 알려진 릴랜드 스탠퍼드가 ”말이 달릴 때 네 발이 전부 땅에서 떨어진 순간이 있는가?“라는 질문에서 시작했다고 합니다.

To answer this question, a running horse was photographed with multiple cameras. The resulting sequence became what is now often called one of the beginnings of moving images. 이 질문에 대한 답을 하기 위해 여러 대의 카메라로 달리는 말을 동시 촬영한 것이 영화의 기원이라 불리는 해당 작업입니다.
